About Me

My name is Dave Thurston and I've been a loving devotee of music for as long as I can remember.  I began my official study of music at the Age of 6 when I began singing in the children’s choir at church in Columbus Ohio.  When I was 10 I went to the St. Thomas Choir School in New York City, where in addition to singing I began to study the flute, piano, and music theory.

In the summer when I was 14 I started singing with my friends who played guitar; I quickly got frustrated at having to sing the songs that they knew and liked.  I decided it was time to start playing guitar myself and I immediately fell in love.  I took lessons all through high school and when I went to college I knew I wanted to major in music.

At Kenyon College I continued studying guitar and music theory and played in a number of bands and school music groups.  This was also when I started expanding my interests to audio engineering and recording.

In 2007 I interned at Livewire Production and Recording in New York City under the instruction of Steve Gaboury, and there my adventure into audio Engineering really took off.  

In 2009, while studying music at The Ohio State University, I apprenticed in Luthiery at the Guitar House Workshop in Columbus Ohio with John Bolzenius and began building and repairing guitars.

At OSU I refined my vocal training singing in the Men’s Glee Club and in 2010 I completed my BA in music graduating Summa Cum Laude.

After graduating from OSU I moved to Tucson where I repaired guitars, taught lessons at the Allegro School of Music and recorded several bands independently and at Mattlind Recording and Mastering.  I also started the band Reason Will Prevail, as well as playing in Our Daily Trespasses, Ensphere and The Black Heart Thieves.

In October 2015 I moved to Seattle, WA.  I worked as the Luthier at The Guitar Store until it closed during the Covid-19 pandemic. I currently play in 4 bands ranging from punk rock, to Soul Funk Rock, to Outlaw Country.  I am also available for freelance recording projects and session work as a guitarist, vocalist and bassist.
